House Construction Quality Checklist

A stage-by-stage checklist for building a house in Pakistan. Check each stage before the next one starts, and never let new work hide an earlier defect.

1. Drawings and approvals

Keep dated photographs at every stage. A photo of the reinforcement before concreting is the most valuable record you can keep.

When to call in an engineer

  • Before the foundation steel is placed
  • Before each slab is cast
  • When cracks or settlement appear
  • Before buying or renting an existing house
  • For a Building Fitness Certificate at completion
