How a 128 km corridor was dualized - the engineering problem, the method, the technical result and what we learned.
The Lilla Jhelum corridor carried a growing volume of mixed traffic on a narrow two-lane facility. Long-distance freight, local farm traffic and commuter vehicles competed for the same lanes, which created congestion, safety pressure and unreliable journey times across a 128 km length.
The task was an at-grade dualization: widen the existing corridor into a dual carriageway without the cost and disruption of full grade separation, while keeping the road serviceable for local access along the route.

The dual carriageway separated opposing flows, restored dependable journey times, and provided a baseline of measured quantities and quality records for the whole length.
Across 128 km, quantities only stay controlled if every chainage is measured and reconciled at each stage. Estimation without a proper measurement system fails on projects of this scale.
Dual carriageways without grade separation remain safe only when junctions, crossing points and access are designed and signed with care. Geometry matters more than speed.
Staging the works by carriageway reduced disruption and kept the route open. Delivery planning is part of the engineering, not an afterthought.
